Expert surf coaching for absolute beginners through to experienced surfers.
Midwest Surf School is Geraldton's fully licensed surf school, running lessons at Back Beach since 2005. Softboards, wetsuits, and qualified coaches are included in standard sessions, with programs for teens, adults, kids, families, schools, and visiting groups.
What Every Session Includes
Each lesson covers a beach warm-up, paddling basics, wave selection, and standing technique, with surf and beach safety built in from the start. Coaches match the session to your ability and the conditions on the day.

Group Lessons
Join a class already in progress. Great value, meet new people, and share the stoke on the water. Once-off sessions, three-lesson series, school holiday blocks, and term programs are available.
One-2-One Sessions
Focus on the skills you need most, whether you are catching your first whitewater wave or working on turns and technique. Private coaching gives you more waves and direct feedback from your coach.
SUP Lessons & Hire
Stand Up Paddleboard instruction and board hire on Geraldton's calm waterways and beaches. A great option when surf conditions are flat or you want a low-impact session on the water. Sessions available by appointment.
nudie SurfGroms
nudie SurfGroms is a national junior program for 5 to 12 year olds. Sessions run weekly through the school term and daily during school holidays. Find a block that suits your child and build confidence in the ocean step by step.
Private Group Classes
Birthday parties, school excursions, community groups, and family bookings welcome. Programs are tailored to group size and ability, with equipment supplied and safety as the priority at Geraldton Back Beach.
High Performance
Advanced coaching for surfers who want to sharpen technique, read conditions better, and prepare for competition. Our level 2 qualified staff work on fitness, board control, and wave selection in small-group or private formats.
Surf & SUP Equipment Hire
Already comfortable in the water? Hire a softboard and wetsuit and surf at your own pace at Geraldton Back Beach. Reserve gear in advance so the right board size is ready when you arrive.
Schools & Groups
